1. About this policy
This policy explains how we assess the condition of vintage garments supplied in our reseller boxes. It applies to every order and should be read with our Terms and Conditions and Returns Policy.
Vintage clothing is pre-owned. Reasonable signs of age, use and previous wear are part of its nature.
2. How we grade stock
Our grading system measures the overall condition of the stock in a box. It does not guarantee that every garment will be identical in condition or individually free from imperfections.
Each box is assessed by experienced members of our team. The grade shown on the product listing applies to the box as a whole.
3. Grading tolerance
Vintage grading involves human judgement, so a limited degree of variation is unavoidable.
A box sold as Grade A may contain up to 10% Grade B garments. This allowance is reflected in the price and does not, by itself, mean that the box is faulty, incorrectly supplied or eligible for a return.
The tolerance applies downwards only. A buyer purchasing Grade B stock cannot claim because the box does not meet Grade A standards.
4. Grade A
Grade A is our highest general condition grade and is intended to be suitable for resale following normal preparation.
Garments should be in very good, wearable condition but may still display minor signs of age or previous use, including:
- Light fading or mild colour variation;
- Minor bobbling or surface wear;
- Small washable marks or light permanent marks;
- Very small holes or minor previous repairs;
- Light embroidery wear or minor cracking;
- Slight fraying around cuffs, collars or hems; and
- Missing non-essential or removable parts, such as hood cords or detachable hoods.
- Grade A does not mean brand new, unworn or completely free from signs of use.
5. Grade B
Grade B garments show more noticeable wear and may require cleaning, repair or reworking before resale. They may be suitable for lower-price resale, upcycling, customisation or restoration.
Examples include:
- Small holes, thinning or fabric wear;
- Visible marks, discolouration or staining;
- Noticeable fading;
- Loose threads;
- Damaged zips, buttons or other fastenings;
- Fraying, seam wear or general deterioration;
- Cracked prints or worn graphics;
- Missing labels or unreliable label sizing; and
- Missing non-essential or removable parts.
These examples are not exhaustive. A Grade B garment may contain one or several of these features.
6. Mixed Grade A/B
A Grade A/B box contains an intentional mixture of Grade A and Grade B garments. These boxes are priced to reflect the wider variation in condition.
Buyers should expect more variation between individual garments than in a Grade A box.
7. Broken, repair or salvage grade
Stock sold as broken, repair, salvage or an equivalent description is supplied in its existing condition, with significant defects expected throughout.
This stock is intended mainly for repair, reconstruction, upcycling, fabric recovery or parts. It should not be assumed to be suitable for immediate wear or resale.
8. Distribution within a box
We do not promise that items of a particular condition will be evenly distributed through a box. Garments with similar levels of wear may be packed together.
The position or order of individual garments does not determine whether the box meets its advertised grade. The assessment is based on the box as a whole.
9. Regrading after delivery
The grade is set by us before dispatch.
The buyer, its staff or another party may use a different grading system after delivery. That later assessment does not replace the grade under which the stock was sold and does not, by itself, establish grounds for a claim.
Any grading dispute will be assessed using this policy and the evidence requirements in our Returns Policy.
10. What grading does not cover
Our grades describe physical condition only. Unless a product listing expressly says otherwise, a grade does not guarantee:
- Particular brands, labels or designers;
- Specific sizes or an even size distribution;
- Particular styles, colours, fabrics or garment types;
- A particular decade, origin or production date;
- Exact quantities of individual designs;
- Future selling price, demand or profit; or
- Suitability for a particular customer base or sales channel.
Vintage label sizes can differ from modern sizing and may vary between brands and periods. Missing, inaccurate or inconsistent size labels are not necessarily grading faults.
A box that meets its advertised grade and the tolerance in section 3 will not be treated as defective because its contents do not match the buyer's preferences or resale expectations.
11. Commercial wholesale standard
We grade stock using a commercial vintage-wholesale standard.
Retail presentation standards, personal taste, fashion trends, expected resale margins and the preferences of the buyer's customers do not form part of our grading decisions.
Unless a listing says otherwise, stock is not supplied freshly laundered, steamed, pressed, repaired or ready for immediate retail display.
12. Cleaning and preparation
Buyers may wish to wash, steam, press, de-bobble or repair garments before resale.
Always check the fabric, construction and care requirements before cleaning or treating an item. We are not responsible for shrinkage, colour transfer, fabric damage or other deterioration caused by washing, drying, pressing, treatment, repair, alteration, storage or handling after delivery.
13. Grading claims
Any grading claim will be assessed against:
- The grade stated on the order or product listing;
- The definitions in this policy;
- The tolerance in section 3;
- The condition of the box as a whole; and
- The claim procedure and evidence requirements in our Returns Policy.
Stock that falls within the advertised grade and permitted tolerance will not qualify for a refund, replacement or exchange on grading grounds.
If a buyer believes a box falls materially outside the grade purchased, it must follow the process and time limit in our Returns Policy.
Stock must not be washed, repaired, altered, resold or otherwise processed before the grading claim has been reviewed. Processing the stock may prevent us from assessing its condition on arrival.
14. Acceptance and legal rights
By placing an order, the buyer confirms that it has read and accepted this policy.
Nothing in this policy excludes or restricts any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will be published on our website and will apply from the effective date shown.
The version in force when an order is placed will continue to apply to that order. Updates will not apply retrospectively unless required by law or agreed with the buyer in writing.
If you do not accept an updated version, you should stop using our website and must not place any further orders. Continued use of our website after an update takes effect confirms your acceptance of the updated policy for future use and orders.
